Michael Holmes has been certified social studies teacher for twenty six years and his passion is to have students develop a deep love and respect for Civics/political science. His great desire is to motivate young people to be enthusiastic about learning the government and politics of our nation and state.
Michael has a BA in History and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. Michael’s experience in touring began there, where he worked as a tour guide at the Old Governor's Mansion for four years. In addition to giving tours of the mansion, he also conducted research on the mansion and Georgia state history.
Michael first became interested in Civics/political science when in high school he went on a trip to Washington, DC with the Close-Up foundation.
Michael has continued to organize and lead tours for churches and youth groups. Through these experiences, Michael began to observe that often the greatest amount of learning occurred on these types of trips. Michael began to see the role that an unfamiliar location might play in a young person's excitement for learning.
Michael states that “as teachers, we know that students learn best through hands-on activities. So my goal is to have trips that are saturated with on-site activities that are sure to excite and interest young learners.” Michael’s background, knowledge, and creativity contribute to trips that are filled with hands-on and experiential learning, ensuring an enriching and invaluable experience.
Michael and his wife, Nikki, also an education major, live in Cumming, GA.
